Objective 2 tonnes of CO2 per person per year: the technical note
2 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) equivalent per person per year on average in 2050, this is a structuring objective on which the 2tonnes workshop is based .
Democratized in France by a few key figures in the fight against climate change, the 2 tonnes are now widely known and often presented as a target to be achieved to limit global warming, echoing the commitments set by the Paris Agreement.
Where does this goal come from? What are its impacts? To what extent does it reflect a realistic vision? Is it still relevant in light of new IPCC data? Last but not least, what does it mean and how relevant is it to engage society in the transition?

CARBON IS TABOO, WE WILL ALL OVERCOME IT!
1 study, 2 objectives
We wanted to refine our initial work, dating from 2021, by publishing this new technical note, which is more complete and up to date. We have therefore set ourselves two objectives:
1- update and clarify the target of 2 tonnes of CO2 equivalent per person per year - shortened thanks to new scientific knowledge provided by the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change)
2- better understand the scenarios it represents, and therefore the possible realities it summarizes in order to better talk about them.
This note is now yours, freely accessible and downloadable below!
