About 2tonnes

Our mission is to "accelerate the transition by getting the players in society moving".

To this end, thanks to the 2tonnes workshop, we create immersive, allegorical and educational experiences for individuals in order to:

  • make them feel responsible (not guilty) and aware of their power to act

  • make them want to act for a goal they support because of its ambition and values

  • make them want to act, because they thrive on action

Our story begins in 2019

  • 🐤 Autumn 2019: François creates the first version of the workshop

  • ✨January 2020: Meeting of François and Pierre-Alix, the 2 future co-founders of 2tonnes Compagnie, at a seminar of La Fresque du Climat at the Campus de la Transition.

  • 🖥️ February 2020: Creation of the web platform (which has been steadily improving ever since) thanks to the support of Data For Good and training of the dream team of developers!

  • 🧑‍🎓 March 2020: First training courses in workshop facilitation and organization of workshops for the general public.

  • 👔 First half of 2020: First corporate events (Essilor, Octo Technology, Mairie d'Arceuil) and at universities (HEC, Centrale Supélec...)

  • 🏡 September 2020: François and Pierre-Alix question ways of increasing the scope of the project, and, at the end of impassioned work sessions, decide to create the SAS de l'Economie Sociale et Solidaire 2tonnes Compagnie to carry the project. This allows them to devote themselves full-time to the project, developing it as much as it deserves.

Project governance

As an impact project driven by the general interest and reaching out to a wide variety of audiences, 2tonnes chose to professionalize in order to increase its impact and accelerate the dissemination of the workshop.  To achieve this, we had to invent the governance model best suited to fulfilling our raison d'être.

Governance was structured around 2 organizations:

  • a Social and Solidarity Economy Company, SAS 2tonnes Compagnie, created and run by François Laugier and Pierre-Alix LLORET, which develops the 2tonnes workshop and manages its distribution within a professional framework (which we call "La Forge").

  • a non-profit organization, the Association 2tonnes, whose mission is to enable the greatest possible number of people to use the tool on a voluntary basis (which we call "Le Village"). The association organizes workshops for the general public run by volunteers, and federates the community of facilitators via events, campaigns and seminars.... All facilitators can become members of the association, and elect a 7-member Board of Directors at the Annual General Meeting by majority vote.

Model, sources and data

The 2tonnes workshop is an educational experience that uses a data model to simulate quantified low-carbon transition scenarios.

Data is therefore a pedagogical tool, and we are very demanding when it comes to the accuracy of the model and the sources used. They give the experience its coherence and credibility.

The calculation methodology during a 2tonnes simulation is based on 3 interacting models:

  • The carbon footprint model calculates the carbon footprints of participants and the population, using data from Ademe, OECD, FAO...

  • The actions model updates the characteristic data of participants and the population, based on assumptions derived from reference works on the subject (RTE, négaWatt, Ademe, etc.).

  • The influence model quantifies the societal dynamics taken into account in the simulation, drawing on concepts from the behavioral sciences.
