Humanity must face the ecological limits of the Earth. The distribution of space and resources does not allow everyone to live in dignity and happiness. Moreover, the resources available per person are decreasing, and threaten a large part of the present and future generations with unbearable conditions. Finally, those who have a worthy lifestyle are not necessarily happy.
It is possible to change the conditions of human life to allow all future generations to live in dignity and happiness. These conditions are possible and favoured by a climate that is not too disordered.
This evolution must reduce climate disruption as much as possible, i.e. +1.5°C in 2100. It must therefore make it possible to reduce our GHG emissions. For example, the aim is to emit on average less than 2tCO2 per person in 2050.
Getting there, or getting closer to it, requires an effective, global and profound transition of our ways of development and our cultures, which must take place now.
But let's not wait until 2050 to be happy! The current generations can also improve their own living conditions and be happier now by flourishing in this transition.
This transition has already begun. Our purpose is to catalyse it. For the future dignity and happiness of humanity, but also for those who live today.
We believe that this transition is an opportunity to be happy. That the climate is a challenge that can give meaning to what we do. That getting involved, taking action, in one way or another, makes you happy.
We believe that 2tonnes is not an indicator, but a project for society, and that if we tone it down a little, we can give everyone the freedom to be part of this project, by expressing their uniqueness and being masters of their choices.
We believe that everyone's action counts and makes a difference. That transition is possible and depends on us.
We believe that there is room for everyone in the transition, that we should not infantilise people, but trust them...
"Accelerate the transition to a decarbonized society by setting the actors of society in motion"
For this, we create, thanks to the 2tonnes workshop, immersive, allegorical and educational experiences for individuals in order to:
Empower them (and not make them feel guilty) and make them aware of their power to act
Make them want to act for an objective to which they adhere for its ambition and its values
Make them want to act because they thrive in action
Governance is structured around 2 organisations:
Social and Solidarity Economy Company, SAS 2tonnes Company, created and directed by François Laugier and Pierre-Alix LLORET, which develops the 2tonnes workshop and manages its distribution in a professional setting (which we call between us "La Forge")
Association law 1901, the Association 2 tons, whose mission is to allow the use, by the greatest number, of the tool in a voluntary framework (which we call between us "The Village"). The association organizes workshops for the general public led by volunteers, and brings together the community of facilitators through events, campaigns, seminars, etc. All facilitators can be members of the association, and elect a Board of Directors at the General Assembly. Administration composed of 7 members by majority judgment vote.
Impact project, driven by the general interest and reaching very different audiences, 2tonnes has chosen to become more professional in order to increase its impact and accelerate the dissemination of the workshop. To do this, we had to invent the governance model that was best suited to fulfilling our purpose.

Meet the team
Idol: Louis de Funès
After graduating as an engineer from Centrale Lyon in 2018, he took a deep interest in environmental issues and got involved in several associations such as Climate Fresk (animator and trainer), Réseau Mycélium (co-founder) and PikPik Environnement.
These experiences have reinforced his interest in the psychology of change and pedagogy, and to make it his profession. Independent consultant and trainer, he has supported several companies in carrying out their Carbon Assessment, and built tailor-made training. He also created the workshop "How to act for the climate" in 2019, and carried the project until he joined forces with Pierre-Alix.
He admires Louis de Funès for his talent, his originality, his humour, but also his humility and his quest for excellence.
Animal totem: The warthog
Former Director of Operations in team mobilization consulting in Canada, he then left for Argentina, where he co-founded an energy transition consulting company, before returning to France and meeting François via Climate Fresk.
Passionate about the organizational and cultural aspects of change, Pierre-Alix is responsible for the development of 2tonnes in companies, partnerships, communication and the structuring of the community of facilitators.
Why the warthog? For this mix of power, self-mockery and subtlety. And also because he never tires of the sound of the word "warthog"
Back end developer
Passionate about topics related to ecology and sustainable development, Jimmy discovered 2tonnes during the 7th season of Data For Good, which launched the platform.
Formerly Data Engineer and now Data Analyst at Phenix, Jimmy helps 2tonnes in his free time, especially on the development of the back-end part of the platform and the management of its database. It also contributes to the reflections on the definition of the new functionalities of the platform.
What is #ShowYourStripes? He lets you go look on the internet. Why ? Because it's simple, understandable, revealing, and he feels it's important to remember why we're all doing this.
Animal totem: The duck
A computer engineer, Xavier spent 28 years in IT before going freelance in 2018 in the fields of software development and Cloud training.
Xavier met François during a 2Tonnes workshop in January 2020.
Aware of global warming for several years, Xavier has been involved in the development of the 2tonne platform since February 2020 and is also the game's host.
Why the duck? Because Xavier adores Donald Duck whom he imitates, it seems, wonderfully.
Back end developer
Animal totem: The stick insect
An engineer by training, Augustin has been working as a Data Scientist since leaving school in 2018.
He discovered 2tons by participating in one of the first public workshops, then got involved in the project during the call for contributions for DataForGood in February 2020.
His contribution mainly concerns the implementation of the simulator: from the calculation of the carbon footprint to the effects of actions.
Why the stick insect? He doesn't like to be the center of attention and prefers to blend into the background. Move along, there's nothing to see !
Conductor of the 2tonne Challenge
Trained in ecology and agronomy, Iris has worked in the public sector, in research structures, associations and as a freelancer.
She is passionate about protecting the environment and thinks that the game is the best way to get a message across. This is why she joined 2tonnes with the beautiful mission of coordinating the deployment of the workshop in higher education.

All this knowledge allows him to refine the pedagogy of the 2tonne workshop, especially for the Italian version.
Charlotte Rose Verdier
Animal totem: The cat
A graduate in international trade, Charlotte decided to continue her studies in the field of communication and web design in the service of the transition and the ecology sector.
Driven by the same values as 2tonnes, it deals daily with conveying the company's vision and ideas through social networks, various visual media and the website.
His totem animal? The cat, independent, but very sociable, Charlotte finds herself very much in him.
Model, sources and data
Average carbon footprint in France
The 2ton workshop is an educational experience which is based on a data model to simulate, in a quantified way, low-carbon transition scenarios.
Data is therefore an educational tool, and we are very demanding with regard to model accuracy, and the sources used. They make it possible to give the experience its consistency and his credibility.
The calculation methodology during a 2ton simulation is based on 3 models which interact with each other:
The carbon footprint model calculates the carbon footprints of the participants and the population, using data from Ademe, the OECD, the FAO...
The stock model updates the characteristic data of the participants and the population, based on assumptions from reference works on the subject (RTE, négaWatt, Ademe, etc.)
The influencing model quantifies the societal dynamics taken into account in the simulation, drawing inspiration from the notions of behavioral sciences
